Why do so many people like Catgirls (anime and real)? They seems to become more popular than Maids and nurses. Why do the ears and tail make such a difference in sex appeal?

Very often they take 2 and make them into 1. Quite often you can see not simply a catgirl, or a schoolgirl, but you see a catgirl wearing a schoolgirl uniform or maids clothes.

about that cat girl issue, I personally think that anime/manga/hentai characters look best when they're 2D and not 3D, so cosplay would drop out for me
why do people like them and why do they wear maid/schoolgirl costumes?
I guess it's the "cute" aspect which is the most significant reason and people like to combine several different fetishes into one so they get more out of it, also an artist has to draw some clothes (well technically he hasn't to) on a character and since catgirls are ussually depicted as young girls they chose those clothes
about the "why" do people love cat girls I can't say much
It's a fetish thing I guess so it can't be explained properly in my opinion as it is the typical for a fetish... you just like it and that's all which is to it

I usually prefer 2D, but I have to admit, 3D is sometimes much better than 2D (it's more of an exception than a rule though).
I think one positive aspect about drawing catgirls, to normal girls that it takes only a few lines to make them into catgirls. A big estethic difference compared to the little effort of drawing the ears and tail (or the kitty paws).
